Information concerning doctorate holders' employability and professional integration in Lombardy were gathered by Stefano Verzillo from University of Milano-Bicocca.

The Lombardy region is known around the world for its contribution to fashion and design, two areas in which the added value comes from the creativity and the innovative dynamic of the region. 

This is a region with many high technology projects. For exeample,  it hosts 35% of Italian biotechnology companies. Furthermore, Lombardy  receives almost 73% of all national investments in research for this sector.

 Lombardy is a large industrial area,with more than 2000 companies in the chemical and synthetic textile industry employing 34% of the workforce in Italy dedicated to this activity sector.

It is also the largest agricultural region in Italy, with 57 000 farms and 8,000 agri-food businesses.
